Faculty of Communication Sciences (USC)
The 12th edition of the Small Cines Conference is held at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, located on the North Campus of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
The Faculty began its activity in the 1991-92 academic year, first in the building in Mazarelos Square and, since 1999, in the new building designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira. The centre houses two degree courses (Journalism and Audiovisual Communication), a double degree course and the Master’s Degree in Journalism and Communication.
The building is Álvaro Siza’s second work in the city of Compostela, after the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (CEGAC). It is composed of a long axial body, to which are connected, perpendicularly, a series of volumes such as the library or the lecture hall. This organisation offers an ambiguous and poetic spatial richness, as is characteristic of Siza’s work, and makes the teaching building a remarkable example of a total work of art in contemporary architecture.
